YOGA

Why not bend and stretch your way to fitness with one of our Yoga classes? During your session, you will be guided through a Vinyasa flow (smoothly connecting several poses together to make a sequence) building up strength and creating heat in the body.

In vinyasa yoga, you will learn how to connect each movement to a synchronised breath. You will learn how this breath acts as an anchor as you move from one pose to the next.

Improved flexibility is one of the most obvious benefits of Yoga. If you stick with these classes you will almost certainly see your flexibility improve. Some people are naturally more bendy than others, but gradually from week to week, seemingly impossible poses will become achievable, aches and pains will start to disappear and your posture will improve.

Maybe less obviously, your balance will improve. Your proprioception (body awareness) will increase, this gives co-ordination to your new found flexibility and you will be able to move more easily.

Yoga encourages you to relax, slow down your breathing and be able to regulate your heart rate. This generally means that their heart rate is lower, giving the body the ability to respond to stress in a more flexible way.

Is stress keeping you awake at night? Studies have shown that practising daily yoga can reduce or even fully prevent insomnia and calm your mind as well as your body.

Adding a few yoga poses to your daily routine can make you an emotionally stronger and happier person. A recent study has shown that practising regular yoga and meditation results in higher serotonin levels (the happy hormone). To put it simply, just 15 minutes of yoga a day can start changing your brain chemistry and improving your mood.

Mindfulness is a real buzz word at the moment but this is not new news to yoga practitioners. When practising yoga, you will shift your awareness to the sensations, thoughts, and emotions that accompany a given pose. That awareness will bring the mind back to the present moment – the main aim of mindfulness – where it can stay happy and focused.

You will feel more calm and relaxed, with less stress and anxiety. You will experience higher levels of energy and enthusiasm and more self-confidence and self-acceptance that will improve many if not all aspects of your life.

Calming your mind helps relieve stress. Being mentally relaxed also improves concentration abilities and lets you think clearer. This means you will be able to retain and recollect more information. All these amazing benefits mean it is no surprise how popular these classes are.
