A new ‘Try-it-for-10’ activity programme developed through the Let’s Get Moving Cambridge team has been a great success with ladies in the Chesterton area.
15 women took part in the 10-week programme aimed at targeting women who are not familiar with a gym environment and live locally to RP Fitness centre in Chesterton where it was held.
They attended one physical activity session per week where they got to trial various activities including indoor cycling, circuits, boxercise, kettlebells, pilates and more.
From those that completed the programme, there were self-reported benefits including increased fitness, weight loss, positive lifestyle changes and improved social interaction.
Ros was one of the participants, “The sessions at RP fitness were fantastic – the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, but also focused – so I feel like I’m learning genuine, tailored fitness knowledge and skills in a very non-threatening and fun way. Perfect for a gym-novice like me”.
Another of the participants was Ellie, who said: “Knowing that I have signed up for a ten-week commitment, really liking the teachers, and meeting other women participants who have similar stories to my own has really helped keep me motivated”.
The programme was developed by Living Sport and Cambridge City Council with funding from Sport England. A number of other activity programmes for women across Cambridgeshire are being developed in a similar ‘Try-it-for-10 weeks’ format.
