GOING TO THE GYM FOR THE FIRST TIME?

  • If you have any concerns about your health or think there is any reason why you shouldn’t begin exercising then we would always recommend that you visit your doctor beforehand to discuss your concerns
  • As part of our commitment to your safety and wellbeing, we ask that you complete a PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) when you join us. This helps us understand our joint responsibilities in terms of your exercise.

Online induction course

Our online gym induction course is a great way to get started! It covers fundamental movements, basic equipment operation, and safety procedures to help you use the equipment effectively and confidently. Take your time and complete the course at your own pace, ensuring you feel comfortable and ready to go.

What should i wear to the gym?

You don’t need fancy workout gear to join our gym! Just wear practical clothing for working out and bring a change of clothes if you need to. Please avoid jeans, work boots, or going barefoot.

Here are some essential things to know about going to RP Fitness:

  • Please read the bright red and blue notices before your workout for important safety information and gym rules.
  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. You can refill it at the water dispenser in the cafe.
  • Put away your weights and equipment when you’re done with them.
  • Be mindful of using your phone on the gym floor so you’re not distracting others.
  • Use the cleaning stations to wipe down equipment after use, so it’s clean for the next person.

To make the most of your visit, plan around peak busy times, which are typically early morning, midday, and 6pm. If the equipment you want to use is in use, it’s good etiquette to share the equipment between sets.

Things to try During Your First gym Session

If you’re new to exercise or have been away from the gym for a long time, we recommend starting with the exercise bikes and cross trainers. These machines are low-impact and perfect for getting your heart rate up without putting too much stress on your joints.

But don’t forget to try the resistance machines too! A balanced workout is key to reaching your goals, and focusing solely on cardio won’t always cut it.

Start with sets of 10-12 reps on each machine, and increase the weight gradually as you feel more comfortable. And remember, it’s important not to push yourself too hard, so take it at your own pace. You’ve got this!

What if I have no idea what I’m doing in the gym?

It’s fine if you’re a bit unsure on how to use the equipment. Remember, everyone at the gym started where you are now. Take your time, keep it simple and don’t push yourself too hard at first, the most important thing is that you show up and keep showing up. And if there’s something that’s got you confused, don’t hesitate to ask one of our friendly staff members for help. We’re here to support you on your fitness journey!.
